Whether you're layering for a noble ensemble or enjoying a soft, breathable base for everyday life, the Violet Smock brings comfort and elegance to your wardrobe. This loose-fitting chemise, part of the Yoremade collection by Epic Armoury, takes inspiration from medieval and early Renaissance shifts, updated with modern sewing techniques and a lightweight crinkled cotton fabric that feels soft against the skin.
Although it’s named a “smock,” is more accurately described as a chemise or shift. Historically worn as the first layer under dresses, gowns, and surcoats, this garment is designed for feminine roles and characters, adding authenticity to any late medieval or early modern costume.
The Violet Smock is comfort and flow. The crumpled cotton is softly textured, airy, and drapes to form a relaxed, easy shape, ideal for sweltering afternoons at camp, walking the market, or resting between takes.
Neck and wrists are tied together and secured using soft strings of the same material. The neckline can be tightened to your preference, either closed or opened loosely. The loose, full sleeves allow for ample room to manoeuvre, and the hem is positioned far below the knee for a vintage, historical fit.
Whether you’re slipping it on as a nightdress or layering it beneath a fitted bodice or overdress, Smock Violet is designed to move with you. The cotton breathes and flexes, keeping you comfortable during warm summer events or long campaigns. It’s easy to wash, easy to wear, and one of those pieces you’ll come back to again and again.
